About doMechy
Have you ever looked at a machine or robot and wondered—what goes into designing one?
Whether you’re a hobbyist or a professional mechanical design engineer, figuring out the best approach for a mechanical application can take a lot of time. The fastest way to learn? Reverse-engineering existing designs.
Even in a company setting, new mechanical designers typically study past designs, analyzing each component and thinking, “Ah, so that’s how it works.” But this learning is often limited to what’s available within your company. When faced with something new, you’ll likely spend hours researching mechanisms, understanding design principles, and going through trial and error to find the best approach.
What if there was a single place to document these designs?
A resource where anyone—whether a professional engineer or a 3D printing hobbyist—can browse a wide range of mechanical design references to learn, adapt, and even improve existing designs.
That’s what doMechy aspires to be. Not just a place where people share their 3D files, but a platform to share the documentation behind our designs, the thought process, and the mechanisms needed.
Right now, I’m building this one project at a time, documenting what I’ve learned from working as a mechanical design engineer. But the goal is bigger than just me. I envision a future where we all contribute our designs, sharing knowledge and experience to empower this community.
